How do I talk to someone on the project without having to signup for anything?

There is no one person who listens to questions. You will need to at least subscribe to the user mailing list. You can unsubscribe just as easily.

Things seem to be scattered to multiple sites. Is there one place for everything?

Yes and no, there are several sites that make up all Apache projects. Each serves a specific purpose. The first one listed below is the one place that will point to everything else as needed.

• The Apache cTAKES main site (this site): http://ctakes.apache.org/ is the central location that will point to everything you will need.
• The Apache cTAKES documentation: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CTAKES houses the bulk of the how-to information.
• The Apache cTAKES SVN URL: https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/ctakes/trunk/ is where you can check out the latest code.
• The Apache cTAKES browseable source code repository: http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/ctakes/ holds all the code for cTAKES and the main site.
• The resources required by cTAKES (not an Apache deliverable): http://sourceforge.net/projects/ctakesresources holds compressed sets of resource files for various Apache cTAKES versions.
• The Apache cTAKES binary distribution system: http://www.apache.org/dist/ctakes/ allows a download location for any cTAKES deliverables once there is a non-incubator release.
• The Apache cTAKES bug tracker: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ctakes is a JIRA system to manage issues across releases.
