OpenOffice.org Conference (OOoCon 2005)
September 28th - 30th 2005
Koper - Capodistria, Slovenia
OpenOffice.org is an open-source software suite is one of the fastest-growing
software suites in the world. It is seen by many as the most viable alternative
to current commercial office automation software suites. Its main advantage
is in its use of open standards and formats and the community of developers
and users that stand behind it and support it. Since 2000, when Sun Microsystems
Inc. first released the source code to the public, OpenOffice.org can
boast with more than 42 mio downloads, 10% market share (estimated by the
OpenOffice.org community based on statements from Forrester, Gartner, IDC, Jupiter as well as internal surveys) and numerous awards by different software companies, events
and magazines.
The conference, organized by the Slovenian
and Italian
OpenOffice.org project teams, follows the success of last two years Berlin
and Hamburg
and is intended to bring together all people who are interested in the
development, deployment or simply using the software suite, to give you
as much information about what OpenOffice.org can do for you and what
it stands for. The first part of the program will cover topics such as
development and OpenOffice.org in education - for those interested in
the community and the project itself, whereas the last part of the conference
will be focused on the end-users and the use of OpenOffice.org in public
administration and enterprises.
This years conference will also be very special because of the long anticipated
arrival of the OpenOffice.org 2.0 version, which will mark a new era in
the development and use of this popular office suite. The 2.0 version
is expected for release in the beginning of summer 2005, therefore the
conference will be particularly focused on this new release and its advantages.
